Bruce is a native Texas, growing up in Kilgore Texas. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University, he served in the US Army stationed in Korea as an MP. After the army gave him a taste of foreign lands, Bruce traveled on his own through Europe and continued overland to India through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. After exploring India for a few months and trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal, Bruce continued on to Southeast Asia visiting Thailand and Laos before returning to Korea to visit friends from his Army days. After this around the world trip, Bruce went to work for Schlumberger as a field engineer working on the oil platforms in the North Sea. In 1980, Bruce transferred with Schlumberger to Houston where he settled in the Montrose area, purchasing a property where he still lives today. He started a successful Real Estate career in 1987, when the oil industry experienced a downturn and Bruce didn't want to leave the city
